Ecigs in the Workplace

Posted December 3rd, 2013 in News by Steve

We should be allowed to use our ecigarettes on the job.  As long as we use some discretion and not vape like a chimney, why not?  It’s a win-win situation.  Explain it to the employer that what you are using is not a cigarette.  There is no burning or smoke involved.  The odourless vapour is not smoke and is not harmful to others.  The battery powers the atomizer, which heats us the liquid creating the vapour.  The heated liquid is made up of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, food-grade flavouring and/or not nicotine.

To go on a break, the person has to stop working and go outside.  The time to walk outside varies.  It could take 30 seconds or 10 minutes.  It takes about 5 to 8 minutes to finish a cigarette.  The smoker then goes back to his desk, another 30 seconds to 10 minutes, then figure out where he has left off on this work.  This could take up to 1 unnecessary hour.  Depending on the weather, if it is cold or raining, the smoker puts on his coat or raincoat, adding valuable time to his nonproductive break.

On average, non-smokers generally take 3 breaks on a workday.  On the other hand, smokers take at least 5 breaks.  Using electronic cigarettes while working reduces the amount of break time for the vapers because they need not go outside, they can use it while working, thus production is optimized, saving time and money.
